For Our Schools
A strong Michigan starts with strong public schools:
A teacher's perspective
Excellent neighborhood schools make successful Michigan citizens. But our state’s educational system is in crisis.
Here are some shocking facts about the crisis:
School Funding has increased more slowly than any other state.
Low wages, a lack of resources, and large class sizes have resulted in a teacher shortage.
There are fewer than half the number of new teachers entering the profession than there were in 2004.
The number of new teachers entering the profession is at its lowest point in at least twenty years.
There are about 100,000 certified teachers living in Michigan who have left the classroom.

What We Can Do To Fix Our Schools
As a teacher, I know what is at stake.
As you State Representative, I will fight for:
Tuition reimbursement programs for university students entering the teaching profession
Funding increases for ALL students and equatable funding to ensure that every child gets the services they need, regardless of their zip code.
Placing strict limits on class sizes and teacher-student ratios.
Ending exploitative for-profit charter schools and holding all charter schools accountable
